Hello friends,

I’m writing to let you know about the program I’m planning for this summer. A retreat isn’t the right word because we aren’t running away from anything.  It’s really a gathering. A gathering of people who are all in need of finding balance.  So many people are in a space of needing to tune in to themselves, to take a breath. The world is loud, the needs of our lives are sometimes difficult, sometimes endless, sometimes both. Regardless of the specifics of our circumstance, it is all big, and busy, and hard to hold- for me too. When that happens to me, I lean on what I know.  I know to ground down. I know to connect with something bigger than myself.  I know to tune in to my own needs again, how my body feels as well as where my mind and soul are lost. If you know me, you know I believe equally in the healing powers of a quiet moment blanketed and cozy with a good tea, fresh scones and book on your lap as I do in breath practices and flowing yoga classes.  I have a feeling you need this too. Come with me to Kayser Ridge Retreat Center, a quaint yet spacious sundrenched home atop the mountain, be grounded in the West Virginian nature and held in a safe space. I’ll guide you to take some time to heal and lead you through practices help you tune in to yourself and your needs in this moment.

I can promise you; I’ll hold space for you- wherever you are in your journey and however you feel in the moment.  I’ll lead you through some grounding breathing techniques, flowing morning yoga and evening yoga nidra (yogic sleep).  We’ll enjoy the kairns and mountain vistas, teatime with homemade sweets, uplifting reading. We’ll hike through the trails at Cacapon State Park and create Ephemeral art if the weather allows. I’ll provide journaling activities with the opportunity to share. We’ll be joined by a former baking professional for a delicious variety of foods throughout the weekend, we’ll break bread and connect for communal mealtimes. We’ll sit by the fire and share stories or songs.

We will reflect even if only to ourselves and take rest. We will tune in and give ourselves grace and space.

Come back to the basics with me.  Come together on a common journey with a few select others and be held as you tune in, ground down and allow yourself to be wherever you are.

Mindfulness vs. Reflection: Does it have to be one or the other?
By Margaret Gallen, MS, RYT 200 April 4, 2025
I’m a fan of mindfulness, meditation, yoga- these practices have done a lot to help me grow in the right direction. When I can hit my favorite¬¬¬ vipassana flow class two-three times a week, I am a better, happier person and a better wife and mother. Yoga and meditation are based on the principals of mindfulness.
Finding Time to Take Time: The Value of Routines
By Margaret Gallen, MS, RYT 200 April 3, 2025
Sure, I argue that taking time to reflect on how we feel is the first step in finding peace, happiness, and balance, but you might be asking yourself, “How?” How can I find time? How did she find time?
Change

I argue that life is a journey that we don’t want to sit it out. So you might be asking yourself: how do I start this journey making choices where I feel fulfilled and happy? What does getting mindful about your choices look like?
Take Time to Reflect
By Margaret Gallen, MS, RYT 200 April 1, 2025
In this “I’m responsible for everything and have time for nothing”, rush, rush world, “take time, ”is likely the last thing anyone wants to hear. But if we want to feel peace, happiness, or balance, it is the first thing we need to do. Before we can feel satisfied or decide to make changes, we need to enter that sometimes-uncomfortable world of taking inventory of ourselves.
